Finishing Touches—A Heavenly Landscape
We are creating more than a beautiful landscape—we are creating a living environment for peace, growth, and renewal. Around our new Women’s Center campus in Livingston Manor, we envision a landscape filled with trees, flowering meadows, and peaceful walking trails along the lakeshore and through forests. Our gardens will be designed to nourish the body, mind, and spirit.
The Global Women's Center campus is on the grounds what was the grand Waldemere Hotel (1921 – 1973), one of the largest and most storied resorts of the famed Borscht Belt. It was majestic with over 20 buildings, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, golf course, a beach and boating, tennis courts and many more amenities.
This magnificent property has been thoughtfully reimagined as The Global Women’s Center for Peace and Enlightenment. Since 1974 when the Transcendental Mediation organization purchased the property, thousands of TM meditators have enjoyed deep meditations, profound Vedic knowledge, delicious vegetarian meals, swimming in pristine Shandelee Lake, walking around the 400-acre property and the peace of living in harmony with nature.
The deep inner transformation of all who live here or come for retreats will now also be reflected in the outer beauty of the property. From the beautiful entrance and tree-lined roads, to the gardens around the newest residence building, Ojas Mandir, the magnificent grand park/walkway down to the lake, the fruit guild orchard, the community garden, the walking trails winding around the property, the renovated beach/boating area, the stunning wildflower meadows and much more, the Global Women’s Center for Peace and Enlightenment is becoming a truly extraordinary meditation retreat center. All who come here will be surrounded by spectacular gardens, enticing trails, orchards, lakeside beach and pavilion, and will remember the profound silence and immense beauty.
Please join us in bringing this vision to reality. Well begun is half done. With generous donations, we have already cleared the roads and property of dead trees, pruned old shrubs and created the first trail. Please see the list of the coming year’s projects.
The first trail has been created along the shore of Shandelee Lake.
Landscaping Around Buildings
Thanks to a special donation, one of the existing Peace Palaces was recently landscaped with small shrubs leading to the entry and running along the east facade.
There are plans to plant several hundred trees on the property.
